What is Genesis Highway Driving Assist?

Highway Driving Assist (HDA) is a Genesis driver assistance feature for highway use. Genesis says it can help reduce fatigue on long drives by maintaining a set distance and speed from the vehicle ahead, can react to vehicles that cut in at low speeds such as in bumper-to-bumper traffic, and helps center the vehicle in the lane, even through curves. Genesis model pages describe Highway Driving Assist 2 (HDA 2). The driver remains responsible for slowing or stopping the vehicle to avoid a collision and for keeping their hands on the wheel.

What Highway Driving Assist does

On its safety page, Genesis describes Highway Driving Assist as a convenience feature that can help reduce fatigue on long drives. It maintains a set distance and speed from the vehicle ahead of you, can react to vehicles that cut in at low speeds, such as in bumper-to-bumper traffic, and helps center your vehicle in the lane even through curves.

Genesis says Highway Driving Assist is for highway use only and that lane markings must be clearly visible on the road.

Limits Genesis sets

Genesis lists these limits in its Highway Driving Assist, HDA 2 and Smart Cruise Control disclaimers:

  • For highway use only, with clearly visible lane markings.
  • Do not use it in poor weather, in heavy or varying traffic, or on winding or slippery roads.
  • It will not work under all circumstances and will not prevent loss of control.
  • The driver remains responsible to slow or stop the vehicle to avoid a collision.
  • HDA 2 may not work correctly if a sensor is damaged, dirty or covered, or if heavy rain, snow or fog is interfering with the sensors.
  • Smart Cruise Control is not a collision avoidance or warning device.

Genesis says its safety features are supplemental and not substitutes for safe and attentive driving, and to see the owner's manual for details and limitations. Because HDA 2 may not work correctly when a sensor is dirty or covered, clear snow from the sensors on your Genesis before you drive. If a driver assistance warning stays on, our service team can check your Genesis; you can schedule service online.
